Why were Bangladeshi Children Handed Over to BSF, Police Asked
Ahmedabad, March 5 – The Gujarat High Court has ordered the special operations group (SOG) of the state police to point out provisions of law or rules under which it handed over three Bangladeshi children to the Border Security Force (BSF). The court directed the police to trace the children.
The directions came Thursday by a division bench comprising Justice Jayant Patel and Justice Rajesh Shukla while hearing a petition by Sourabibi, a Bangladeshi and resident of Chandola Talav area in Ahmedabad.
Sourabibi had filed a petition in the high court in December 2009 saying her three children, including a three-year-old, were illegally taken away from her. She has no clue of their whereabouts since then.
The court asked the SOG to specify the reasons for its action. Replying to the plea, the SOG had mentioned that the children were found to be staying illegally and were handed over to the BSF in West Bengal.
According to Mukul Sinha, counsel for the petitioner, identifying illegal foreign nationals and handing them over to the BSF in such a manner was unlawful.
