Ramakrishnan, Pratap Reddy, Zohra Get Padma Vibhushan
New Delhi, Jan 25 – The Indian government Monday awarded the Padma Vibhushan to six eminent personalities, including veteran actor Zohra Segal, Apollo Hospital Group chairman Prathap Chandra Reddy and Nobel laureate Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, for exceptional and distinguished service.
Three people have been given the Padma Vibhushan, the country’s second highest civilian award, in the field of art — Zohra Segal, former National School of Drama director Ebrahim Alkazi and mridangam artist Umayalapuram K. Sivaraman.
Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Dr Y.V. Reddy has been named for the Padma Vibhushan in the public affairs category.
Britain-based Ramakrishnan, who last year won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry, has got the award for science and engineering. And Prathap Chandra Reddy for trade and industry.

Pratap Reddy is also credited with the biggest theft in the name of Public Private Partnership at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in Delhi. He took 15 acres of prime land from the government valued at800 crores with a written promise to treat one third of patients free of cost, and for last 15 years has been voilating that committment by bribing the politicians and depriving the por people of Delhi of the medical treatment they need. Ge is no different from his Andhra brother Raju of Satyam and its only a matter of time that he will be exposed as the Supreme court of India is soon going to decide on his Delhi hospital case. Padma Shree can be managed by bribing politicians in India. Just before Raju of Satyam was exposed he was also awarded Excellent Corporate Governance Award by Indian government.
All these government honors have long lost their credibility. It’s all just for the sake of it.
