‘MQM Pakistan’s Richest Party, Ruling PPP Poorest’

Islamabad, Jan 20 – The Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) that is a member of Pakistan’s ruling coalition is the country’s richest political party while the Pakistan Peoples Party that leads the alliance is the poorest, details furnished to the Election Commission show.

The MQM has declared its moveable, immovable and cash assets at near Rs.90 million. The party income for 2008-09 stands around Rs.77.04 million while expenditure was at Rs.37.67 million.

The ruling party PPP surprisingly has no property in the country and its cash assets are a mere Rs.435,000, Online news agency reported.

During 2009, only Rs.600 was spent from the party’s accounts.

The PPP and the MQM are among the 56 registered political parties which have submitted details of their assets and bank accounts to the Election Commission under article 13 of the Political Parties Order of 2002.

All the submitted details have been verified by chartered accountants.

The main opposition Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has declared moveable, immoveable and cash assets of more that Rs.70.6 million, income of Rs.5.80 million and expenditure of Rs.4.10 million.
