Michael Foot’s Funeral Held

London, March 15 – British Prime Minister Gordon Brown Monday led mourners at the funeral of former Labour leader and MP Michael Foot, a lifelong friend of India.

Foot, who campaigned for India’s independence as a young man and counted Jawaharlal Nehru among his friends, died at the age of 96 at his London home March 3.

Representing India at the funeral in Golders Green, a London suburb, was High Commissioner Nalin Surie.

Prime Minister Brown was among 160 people, including many from the Labour Party, who gathered to pay their last respects to Foot.
