Delhi Swelters on Hottest Day of May in Three Years

New Delhi, May 13 – Breaking a three year record, Delhi Thursday experienced the hottest day in the month of May as the mercury soared to 44.4 degrees Celsius.

‘Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 44.4 degrees Celsius which was four degrees above average for this time of the year,’ an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.

According to the IMD website, Thursday was the hottest day in the month of May in the last three years.

As the mercury soared in the day, roads wore a deserted look. The simmering heat reminded citizens of April this year when temperatures hovered around 43 degrees Celsius.

The minimum was recorded at 25.9 degrees Celsius which was normal for this time of the season.

‘We expect some areas to experience dust and thunder storms late Thursday,’ the IMD official said.

On Friday, the capital can expect the maximum temperature to hover around 45 degrees Celsius and minimum temperature to be at 28 degrees Celsius.

‘Delhi can expect a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of dust and thunder storms in some areas on Friday,’ the IMD official added.
