Celebrated Conductor Sutej Dies
Croatian conductor VJEKOSLAV SUTEJ has lost his year-long battle with leukaemia, aged 58.
Sutej, who has worked with opera greats Placido Domingo and Montserrat Caballe, passed away on Wednesday (02Dec09). He was diagnosed with the disease last year (08).
Sutej has led orchestras in the U.S., Italy and Spain. Since 2003, he has conducted Croatia’s Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra.
He was also a Vienna State Opera conductor and led four Christmas concerts with opera legends Domingo and Jose Carreras.
